Burmese migrant families along the Thai-Myanmar border often live in a condition of poverty and marginalisation. Parents struggle to earn money and support their children’s education as they survive on small income that they generate under exploitative working conditions. The condition of migrant children has significantly improved with respect to the past and children in learning centres look better, more healthy. However, many migrant children still walk barefoot and are exposed to an increased risk of infection and can get hurt. This is why proper footwear is crucial to minimise the risk of getting infections and ultimately improve the well-being of children.
On 7th of June 2019, Help without Frontiers has decided to launch a campaign with the aim of buying 800 pairs of shoes that will be distributed to migrant children and youth in learning centres.
Those who will join the campaign in Thailand will receive a small gift as a sign of our gratitude for their support. Supporters outside Thailand are also welcome to join the campaign.
We also have shared our campaign with local businesses to receive their precious support. With this regard, the online printing company Gogoprint responded to our call for support. In accordance with their Corporate Social Responsibilty’s policy, they have decided to join our #Shoes4Children campaign. Thanks to their kind support, more than 50 students in learning centres will have a new pair of shoes and will walk safely to school.
Help without Frontiers would like to express its gratitude for the support that companies like Gogoprint are giving to migrant children. We extend our gratitude to each one of the supporters who are contributing in sharing this initiative with their friends, allowing to create a chain of solidarity to the benefit of those in need along the Thai-Myanmar border.
