From June to August 2019, in collaboration with Global Arms Incorporated, we have organised Child Safety Workshops in Mae Sot and its surroundings. We have been able to reach almost 300 students on both sides of the border, organising training for Burmese students in Mae Tao Ta Lay school (Myanmar side), Ban Huai Muang and Anukul Wittaya schools (Mae Sot district); Ban Pha Ka Mai, Ban Room Klao, and Ban Sam Yod Doy schools (Phop Phra district).
After some ice-breaking and warm-up activities to introduce our team, trainers have organised participatory activities to discuss the following topics and messages:
1) My body
- You have ownership of your own body!
- You can say, No!
2) Safety Network :
- What is a Safety Network?
- Who is in my Safety Network?
- What should you do if the person that touches you inappropriately is part of your Safety Network?
3) Safe/Unsafe Touch
- What do you already know?
- Safe, Unfriendly, Unsafe Touches :
- Early Warning Signs
4) Secrets
- What are safe secrets?
- What are unsafe secrets?
5) Private Parts
- Private parts of our body (bathing suit)
- No one can touch MY Private Parts
- No one can ASK ME to touch MY Private Parts
- No one can ASK ME to touch THEIR Private Parts
- No one should SHOW ME PICTURES of Private Parts
- No one should SHOW ME THEIR private parts
We believe it's pivotal to work with children and raise their awareness on the situation that day by day might put their safety in danger. We are grateful for the sound collaboration with Global Arms Incorporated and we are thankful for their sharing of expertise in the field of child abuse and prevention of risk situations.
