13 Jan, 2019

Every year, the second week of January, people in Thailand celebrate children and their leading role in the society. Schools and many other public organizations devote the day to activities and games for the entertainment of children and young adolescents.

On 12 January 2019, the Rays of Youth Thailand, in collaboration with the Health and Child Protection departments of Help without Frontiers, organised an event at Rose Field Learning Centre, in Phop Phra district, for involving parents of the students and the surrounding community in this celebration. The theme of 2019 Children's Day was "#BeSafe #BeProtected #BeAware". Children and youth had the chance to join traditional Burmese games and activities while learning more on safe migration and other relevant issues for their lives along the Thai-Myanmar border. To this aim, the teams of Help without Frontiers set up educational booths offering games and interactive activities on four main topics: safe migration, anti-human trafficking, child protection and child rights, and gender. The participants were divided into four teams and rotated around the educational booths to gain knowledge on these relevant topics through child-friendly activities. A total of 446 people joined the event: 227 students, 32 teachers, 69 parents, 105 youths and 13 members of the staff of Help without Frontiers.

Have a look at how the event looked like here!

Children are the future of the nation and investing in children’s education is a first priority and a key to social development. Only when children, parents and entire communities are empowered with knowledge and skills on children's rights and protection, then their safety, security and protection can be ensured to a greater extent and societies can evolve and progress.

We would like to express our deep gratitude to Diakonia and Plan International Thailand, which keep supporting the activities of the Rays of Youth and believing in the power of education in transforming lives, for a better and brighter future.
