For the first time, two Rays of Youth board members, Thin War War Kyaw and Aung Thiha, traveled outside Tak province to visit Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. It was a five-day trip full of learning, discovery, and inspiration.

Thin War War was touched by how kind and polite the people were, how soft and warm their way of speaking felt, and how calm and green the northern mountains looked. “I loved hearing their gentle language and how they respected each other, even on the roads. Life there felt more peaceful than in Mae Sot. It made me think I should also try to be more polite and kind in my own way,” she shared.

Both of them joined the WE Center opening ceremonies in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. They saw women from many ethnic groups performing traditional dances, wearing beautiful dresses, selling handmade crafts, and speaking about their dreams for women’s rights.

Aung Thiha was amazed by the beautiful traditions, colorful clothes, unique buildings, and how proudly women took the lead in their communities. “Seeing their dances, food, and how they value women’s voices made me happy and proud,” he said.

Thin War War said, “The way they designed and organized the events was so creative and full of life.”

They also joined the Women, Peace & Security meeting with UN Women, where women leaders from across Thailand shared their work and ideas on how to make life better for women. Aung Thiha said, “It inspired me to think about what we can do for women in our own community too.”

One lesson from the trip stayed in their hearts — a teacher from DEPDC told them: “If you can manage yourself first, everything else will follow.”

Thin War War said, “I feel lucky to meet someone who shared such wise words. I want to try to change myself step by step.”

Their first journey north gave them new ideas, hope, and motivation to keep growing as young leaders,  ready to bring positive change back home.
